I was preparing to staple the top frame in place, but stopped myself. I realized I had no visible fasteners on the rest of the table, yet would have eight holes on top filled with putty that would then turn a dark brown because I can never get it to stain properly. After thinking about it for a few hours, I returned to my trusty biscuit jointer. This isn't an ideal solution, as the top would probably come off if someone were to lift the table by the frame instead of the body, however it will work a lot better than staples or some of the small nails I had thought of using. Ideally, the top would be screwed on, with the screws being countersunk and a plug glued in over the top.
